​Linda Lorelle Scholarship Fund

Website and Application

​This scholarship is awarded to high school juniors attending any public, private, or charter school in Harris or Fort Bend County-plus juniors participating in:

  • Kickstart
  • Boys & Girls County
  • Boys & Girls Harbor
  • Chinquapin Preparatory School

Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, be eligible for federal aid, display valid financial need, and display the ability to overcome unusual circumstances.

​George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation Scholarship Program



  1. High School Seniors after the start of their senior year.

  2. Houston area high school seniors who attend schools or are homeschooled in the following eight counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery or Waller.

  3. Students who are citizens of the United States. Students with Permanent Resident status are not eligible.

  4. The Scholarships are awarded based on academics and financial need.

​Ronald McDonald Scholarship Program

Information and Application

If you are a high school senior planning to attend a two or four year college and reside in one of the counties in and around the Greater Houston/Galveston area please consider completing an application

​The Ronald McDonald House Charities® U.S. Scholarship program is designed to provide financial assistance to eligible graduating high school seniors who face limited access to educational and career opportunities. Scholarships are awarded by the local Ronald McDonald House Charities® Chapter, with support from Ronald McDonald House Charities® Global and McDonald’s Corporation. Students are selected, and awards are distributed based on demonstrated academic achievement, community involvement/leadership and financial need.


​The Gilbert and Sullivan Vocal Scholarship

Information and Application

Each year, the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston awards a scholarship to a promising vocal student attending a college or university in the Houston area, or to a student from the Houston area attending a college or university elsewhere.  This year the scholarship will be in the amount of $500, although that amount may be increased to $1600, based on fund availability. High school seniors entering college in the fall are also eligible.  This scholarship money is provided to the Society through a grant from the Lillian Kaiser Lewis Foundation, and is intended for a student majoring in vocal performance.  When financially able, the Society may award an additional scholarship of lesser value to a second, strongly qualified candidate. 

​Young Women in Public Affairs Award

The Barbara L. Halstead Memorial Young Women In Public Affairs Award is designed to encourage young women in high school to pursue careers and seek leadership positions in public policy, government, and volunteer organizations.  This award is available at the international, district and club levels.  Our club awards this in the spring of each year in the amount of $1250.  The Houston Club recipient goes on to compete at the District 10 level ($1000 award) and that award recipient is then eligible for the Zonta International competition (ten $4,000 awards).

​The goal of the Thelma Maresh Scholarship Program is to recognize and award scholarships to graduating students in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Houston who are extraordinary leaders, outstanding scholars and responsible citizens.  Five scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each will be awarded.  Awards will be presented on April 21, 2018, during the San Jacinto Day Commemorative Ceremony at the San Jacinto Monument, San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site.

Criteria for Selection

The scholarship committee will seek the most promising student leaders with potential for providing exceptional contributions to the college or university that he/she will attend and to the world at large.  The selection will be based on:

  1. leadership
  2. scholarship
  3. responsible citizenship

In addition to these criteria, the scholarship committee is interested in the applicant's educational and career plans, life philosophy, volunteerism, motivation and determination.

​General Policies and Procedures
The ICCC awards annual $1,000 renewable scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are of Italian descent, to any degree on either side of parentage and who submit complete applications by the specified deadline. Recipients are chosen by the Scholarship Committee based on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. It is a great honor to receive a scholarship which is applied to the student’s college tuition ($500 in the Fall and $500 in the Spring). The recipient may apply for a renewal of the scholarship every spring (renewal applications are due by July 1 of each year) for a period totaling four years. This is a total of three renewals after the initial award. Renewals are only awarded for consecutive fall/spring semester during the four year period of eligibility. To qualify for a scholarship renewal, the student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum semester total of 12 hours.

Project Joy and Hope proudly continues its mission to provide college scholarships to senior students throughout our state who value education, believe in service to others, and have worked hard to overcome obstacles as they complete their high school careers. Since 2001, PJH has provided scholarships totaling nearly $700,000 to area high school seniors.

Eligibility: To be eligible for a 2018 HOPE SCHOLARSHIP, student must have experienced the death of a parent or a sibling. We cannot consider other extended family members, such as grandparents or step-parents. Each eligible applicant must complete the enclosed packet.

Varsity Tutors



Varsity Tutors holds a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest where students must write an essay in response to a monthly prompt.

Visitors to the Varsity Tutors Scholarship webpage are able to vote via social media for submitted entries.​

The top 5 entries with the most votes are reviewed by Varsity Tutors at the end of the month and one winner is subsequently chosen to receive the $1,000 college scholarship.

Enrolled in an eligible Texas institution and an eligible ROTC program, committed in writing to remain in ROTC for four years, graduate in five years, enter Guard service or accept a commission with the armed service within six months of graduation from college, meet program physical fitness requirements, GPA 3.0 or higher, top third of class, SAT score of 1590 or ACT score of 23
