Thank you for visiting my website! I am excited for the opportunity to share my love of history with you all this year!
I offer tutorials before school (6:45am-7:15am) on Tuesdays and after school (2:45pm-3:15pm) on Wednesdays. For any conflicts, please contact me.
This is a year of firsts for me - my first year at Miller Career & Technology Center, and my first-year teaching in the traditional classroom environment. A native Texas girl, I have a B.A. in History from Sam Houston State University and a M.A. in Museum Science from Texas Tech University. My love of history took me on an indirect path to get here, with a 12-year stopover in museum education.
My time in museums has given me many adventures from riding on 1890s big wheel bike, to driving a WWII jeep to firing a reproduction cannon, just a bit too early! My classroom has been on the streets of Juneau, in a hands-on children's museum and in several historical homes, with the occasional chicken or pig running loose nearby. I have taught learners of all ages and count my favorite moments as those when I have been able to share untold stories of the people who have shaped our communities.
I am excited to take my love of history and my unique background to the traditional classroom and see what kind of historical magic we can make. I can't wait to go on a year-long journey with my students as we explore the history, the humans, the humor and the heartbreak which make up the American experience.
When I am not teaching, I am most likely reading, going down random research rabbit holes or hanging with my pups, Athena and Bentley. I have a very tight knit family, and we enjoy going on adventures together and seeing what we can see. Outside of my family and dogs, my greatest love is exploring this big, beautiful world of ours and have eight countries, 11 islands and 30 states off my bucket list. Only the rest of the world to go!
