Congratulations to those who have been accepted into PACE for the 2018-19 school year!

What is PACE?

  • PACE stands for Professional Advancement through Career Education and is like no other class offered in KISD.
  • PACE is an elective course that carries a 5.0 GPA weight.
  • PACE is an internship program at Miller Career & Technology Center that offers a hands-on, non-traditional learning experience.
  • In other words, you get to learn OUTSIDE of the classroom!

Who can join PACE?

  • PACE is a non-paid internship course limited to seniors classified as GT or seniors with a 3.8 GPA or higher.
  • Students must have a driver license (by 7th day of school) and their own transportation.

How do I apply for PACE?

  • Students may apply in the spring of their junior year.
  • The MCTC Course Catalog is now available at your home campus counselor's office.
  • The MCTC application can be found inside the course catalog.
  • Interested students must complete and submit an MCTC application to their home campus counselor.
What about the internship?
  • PACE students may select any field or industry that they want.
  • PACE students are responsible for securing an internship with a mentor; this agreement should be established over the summer before his/her senior year begins.
  • The teacher will have a list of returning mentors, but the list is limited.
  • PACE students will intern a total of six hours per week on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday for 24 weeks of the school year (2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th six weeks).
  • PACE students will be in the PACE classroom on Fridays.
  • PACE students gain valuable experience that will set them apart from their peers.
What does the PACE schedule look like?
  • PACE is blocked during 6th and 7th periods.
  • All PACE students are concurrently enrolled in AP Literature & Composition at MCTC.
  • Students will alternate days attending PACE and AP Literature.
  • Here is the PACE schedule for the 1st and 6th six weeks when students are not attending an internship.

WHY should you apply for PACE?

  • PACE is an opportunity to get out of the classroom and into the real world of work.
  • PACE is an opportunity to see day-to-day duties and responsibilities of a future career.
  • PACE students enjoy real world application of the skills they have learned in the regular classroom.
  • PACE provides networking opportunities within the career field.
  • PACE stands out when listed on college applications.
