Prerequisites: Identified as Gifted and Talented. Students with a 3.8 GPA or higher are also eligible, pending availability of space in the course. Co-requisite: AP English IV or AP English IV GT at MCTC Students must provide their own transportation. Grade: 12 

Students will participate in a non-paid internship program for a minimum of six hours a week with a professional to experience the demands and expectations of the profession first hand. This internship experience will provide students the opportunity to reinforce, apply and transfer their knowledge and skills. Students will research, design and construct a project on a topic related to their career interests under the supervision of a mentor. Students will submit progress reports, a final written report and they will defend their solutions to a panel of outside reviewers before the end of the school year.​

What is PACE?

  • PACE stands for Professional Advancement through Career Education and is like no other class offered in KISD.

  • PACE is an elective course that carries a 5.0 GPA weight.

  • PACE is an internship program at Miller Career & Technology Center that offers a hands-on, non-traditional learning experience. 

  • In other words, you get to learn OUTSIDE of the classroom!

Who can join PACE?

  • ​PACE is a non-paid internship course limited to seniors classified as GT or seniors with a 3.8 GPA or higher.

  • Students must have a driver license (by 7th day of school) and their own transportation. 

How do I apply for PACE?

  • ​Students may apply in the spring of their junior year.

  • For course request to MCTC, follow the link on the MCTC Home Page.

  • Interested students must complete the online form. 

​​What about the internship?

  • PACE students may select any field or industry that they want. 

  • PACE students are responsible for securing an internship with a mentor; this agreement should be established over the summer before his/her senior year begins. 

  • The teacher will have a list of returning mentors, but the list is limited.

  • PACE students will intern a total of six hours per week on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday for 24 weeks of the school year (2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th six weeks). 

  • PACE students will be in the PACE classroom on Fridays.

  • PACE students gain valuable experience that will set them apart from their peers. 

What does the PACE schedule look like?

  • PACE is blocked during 6th and 7th periods. 

  • All PACE students are concurrently enrolled in AP Literature & Composition at MCTC.

  • Students will alternate days attending PACE and AP Literature.

  • PACE is an opportunity to get out of the classroom and into the real world of work.

  • PACE is an opportunity to see day-to-day duties and responsibilities of a future career.

  • PACE students enjoy real world application of the skills they have learned in the regular classroom.

  • PACE provides networking opportunities within the career field.

  • PACE stands out when listed on college applications.
