Why take Cyber Security and what type of experience will students gain?

Many day to day functions and activities are shifting globally to an online or virtual setting including shopping, payment methods, hospital record keeping, office meetings and even classroom instruction. While there are benefits to embracing the digital age, one potential major issue is the security of personal and confidential information. The Cyber Security field is rapidly growing as we find ways to protect people's privacy online. Our course will provide students the knowledge and experience through hands-on lab time including projects in ethical hacking, cryptography practice, digital forensics, Raspberry Pi projects, and risk management. The course instructor will also provide several guest speakers throughout the year including FBI agents in the cyber security field and Google representatives. This gives students an opportunity to be exposed to several potential job options within the cyber field. Field trips to companies such as Alert Logic Cyber will also expose students to daily functions and expectations in this industry.

What types of jobs can you do in the field of Cyber Security?

  • Chief Information Officer
  • Cryptography
  • Network Administrator
  • IT Security Engineer
  • IT Security Consultant
  • Junior IT Auditor/Penetration Tester
