Prerequisites: Principles of Health Science and Health Science Theory
Requirement: Students must have a social security number to register as a Technician in training and must provide a specific clean drug test.
This course prepares students to support pharmacists by providing assistance during patient consultation, counter dispensing operations, prescription preparation, and performing a wide range of duties for both retail and hospital based pharmacies. Students have the opportunity to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician after passing the optional certification exam and completing the registration process. They may also earn the Sterile Compounding & Aseptic Technique (SCAT) certification, which is necessary for employment at hospital pharmacies. A non-paid internship is available during the spring semester at an approved pharmacy.

Can you earn a certification while taking Pharmacy Tech?
Yes. Students who complete our Pharmacy Tech course may be eligible to take the state exam to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician once they have graduated high school. This is an entry level certification within the Pharmacy industry. During the school year students will also have the opportunity to earn the Sterile Compounding & Aseptic Technique (SCAT) certification, which is required to work in hospitals, long-term care facilities and home healthcare.
